Why Should I Consider Online Counseling?

Comfortable, Relaxed, Effective Therapy Sessions

This is by far the question I hear most often from people who are still trying to decide whether or not to move forward with online counseling. If you’re trying to make this decision, here are five important reasons why telehealth is the right treatment option for many people. If you have questions or want to find out more, don’t hesitate to reach out to me to discuss further.

1 – Save Travel Time

Many people want to fit their therapy into an already busy schedule, and a 50-minute session doesn’t quite fit into most lunch breaks, especially with travel time. Luckily, telehealth counseling services mean you don’t need to worry about time spent driving to and from our office. Instead, you can complete your therapy sessions wherever you are most comfortable. This also means that those who live in more remote locations have access to a licensed therapist.

2 – From the Comfort of Home and/or Office

Almost everyone feels the most at ease in your own home where you control your surroundings and environment. When you’re gearing up to share personal concerns and challenges with another person, it can help to do so in an environment where you can relax. Short of bringing your therapist into the home, online counseling offers you the ability to engage in effective therapy sessions in the places where you feel the most comfortable and open to share. This can remove many of the comfort barriers that can be a struggle for some people to overcome during counseling.

3 – Flexible Scheduling Options

When all you need is access to the internet, a camera, a microphone, and privacy, counseling suddenly becomes a little easier. People love that they don’t need to explain to their boss where they’re going, and for those who may have safety concerns with visiting a counselor, being able to conduct your therapy session at your home may be a great solution. The flexibility helps give greater opportunity to those who are seeking counseling, but who don’t want to worry about awkward explanations or taking time off of work or school.

4 – Online Therapy is as Effective as In-Person

Many people wonder whether or not online therapy sessions are as effective as in-person counseling (that includes counselors). There has been a lot of research into the efficacy of online counseling, and most of the results are positive. Specifically, a 2007 study published by the American Psychiatric Association showed that face-to-face and video counseling lead to the same clinical outcomes and level of satisfaction for clients, and it cost 10% less per session.

5 – Your Therapist- On Demand

Online Counseling is a great way to meet with me when you need it the most. Forget having to schedule your entire day around a therapy appointment or maybe you just want to schedule a quick 30 minute session to process a really difficult day. You have access to do this since I make myself highly available for you. Without being tied to insurance, I make sure I make the space and time for my clients when they need me the most. It is like having a therapist on demand. Well, maybe not on demand, but it will sure feel a lot more convenient.
